CAREC 2 extends from China through Central Asia westward toward the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus, ultimately connecting onward toward Black Sea gateways and Mediterranean access. It has multiple sub-routes that link the PRC, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan. Known in broader corridors literature as part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route or “Middle Corridor,” CAREC 2 combines road, rail, and maritime links across the Caspian to support Eurasian freight flows. The corridor’s alignment was revised after Georgia’s accession to CAREC.
