Objective

Once completed, Vadhavan Port is expected to become one of the top 10 ports in the world, with a planned cargo handling capacity of about 298 million tonnes per year, including approximately 23.2 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of container capacity. It will feature extensive infrastructure including nine 1000-meter container terminals, multipurpose berths, liquid cargo berths, a Ro-Ro berth, and a Coast Guard berth, alongside 10.14 km of offshore breakwaters and large reclaimed areas for storage and operations.

Description

Vadhavan Port is a planned all-weather Greenfield deep-draft major port on the Arabian Sea coast near Dahanu in Palghar District, Maharashtra. Approved by the Union Cabinet with an estimated investment of around ₹76,220 crore, the project is being developed by Vadhavan Port Project Limited (VPPL), a special purpose vehicle jointly formed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) (74 % stake) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) (26 % stake).
