Objective

“Re-engaging our link from Lüderitz to mines in the Northern Cape was one of the growth areas we identified as part of our drive to turn Namibia into a logistics hub. “

Description

The Aus-Lüderitz Railway Line, part of the Namibian railway network, connects the town of Aus with the port of Lüderitz, a distance of 318 kilometers. Completed in 1906 and extended to Seeheim in 1908, it was decommissioned in 1997 due to poor track conditions. However, it was re-habilitated and reopened in 2018 to facilitate freight transport, particularly bulk goods. The line is now a key part of Namibia's efforts to become a regional logistics hub

History
