Description

The new Poipet-Aranyaprathet border crossing is specifically for freight traffic. Passenger traffic will continue to use the existing border crossing. The construction of Thailand-s part of this new facility will consist of a 4.7km bypass road and a bridge over the Prom Hrod Canal.

History

Cambodia and Thailand have agreed in principle to a new location for the Poipet-Aranyaprathet border crossing to accommodate freight traffic. Passenger traffic would continue to use the existing border crossing. The new freight traffic crossing will require a new southerly bypass road, which would comprise about 2 kilometers (km) of four-lane roadway in Cambodia and about 17.6 km in Thailand. New border-crossing buildings and other facilities will also be built. The two countries requested that ADB provide a TA to study and give recommendations on the border-control and management- facilities component of the project, as well as on the specific location and alignment of the new road link. The Cambodia part of the project was however cancelled.
