Objective
The Susah Port, conceived as a multi-use port with one of its focuses being containers, will be the deepest water port in Libya; the first port to be built to a globally competitive and efficient standard and the largest port infrastructure investment by a US company in Libya’s history, a statement explained. Description
The project aims to position the port as a major regional hub for international trade, handling container, general, and bulk cargo, while also boosting Libya's economic resurgence and job creation. The first phase included a 1,350m quay with three berths, a fully automated container terminal, and supporting infrastructure, with further phases planned to expand capacity for various cargo types. Developed through a design-build-operate-transfer (DBOT) public-private partnership (PPP). History
Construction was originally planned to start in 2023 but has been delayed. However, this U.S. investment in Libya’s long-delayed Mediterranean Sea deepwater commercial port of Susah, one of the deepest natural maritime points in North Africa, was discussed by military commander Saddam Khalifa and U.S. Guidry Group in Italy’s capital Rome in June 2024. The Guidry Group chief executive and president Michael Guidry said, “We are delighted to enter into a design and construction agreement with Archirodon. Archirodon brings its globally renowned experience in port construction and has a long and distinguished history of developing port infrastructure in Libya and the whole of MENA region
