Objective

The project aims to increase the annual capacity of the Olya port by 3.3 million tonnes by the end of 2024, with a long-term goal of handling 20 million tonnes of cargo via the Trans-Caspian route within 3–4 years.

Description

Investment in the Port of Olya, located in Russia's Astrakhan region on the Caspian Sea, is heavily focused on developing a Port Special Economic Zone (PSEZ) to enhance trade along the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). The initiative is positioning the port as a major logistics hub connecting Russia to Iran and beyond, with significant infrastructure investment aimed at increasing container and cargo capacity

History

The Port of Olya, located in Russia's Astrakhan Oblast on the Volga-Caspian Canal, began operations on June 3, 1997, serving as a critical Caspian logistics hub. Originally a fishing area, it became a key maritime link with Iran, featuring 10+ docks, railway access added in 2004, and significant military cargo traffic
