Objective
Phase 1 was construction of the first three berths and associated infrastructure, each with a depth of 17.5 metres and a length of 400 metres. The three berths are designed to handle container, general and bulk cargo. Description
The Lamu port project is part of the LAPSSET project, one of the flagship infrastructure projects identified by Kenya’s development blueprint Vision 2030. The project involves the construction of 32 berths along a 6,000m stretch at Manda bay. The construction of the first three births is the first priority while the rest will follow. Manda bay in Lamu was selected as the port area since it is well sheltered and has deep waters. It has 32 berths.
