Objective

The objective is to (i) provide Malawi, Zambia and the interior of Mozambique road transport linkage to the port of Nacala and improve transport services through reduction in transport and delay costs at border crossings (ii) improve sustainability of investments by controlling axle loads (iii) improve accessibility of the communities in the zone of influence to markets and social services and contribute to the reduction of poverty.

Description

The project is to be implemented in three Phases. The first one, subject of this support comprises 361km or 35% of road works in Mozambique and Malawi. It will be focused on the rehabilitation of the Cuamba-Muita road in the north of the country. Phase II comprises 360km or 34.9% of road works in Zambia and Phase III of 312km or 30.1% of road works in Mozambique and Malawi and two one-stop border posts between Mozambique and Malawi and Malawi and Zambia.
