Objective

The port will handle 12.5 million tonnes annually, significantly increasing Russia's 7.5 million-tonne Caspian capacity. Facilities will include a container terminal (5m tonnes), grain terminal (5m tonnes), and liquid cargo (0.5m tonnes).

Description

Russia is planning a major $1.6bn port near Lagan in the Republic of Kalmykia on the Caspian Sea to boost trade via the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
