Objective

This project aims to enhance transport connectivity, potentially replacing the existing Cape gauge line and facilitating cargo movement, as well as passenger transport

Description

The Ibadan to Abuja Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is part of a larger project connecting Lagos to Kano through Ibadan, Minna, and Abuja. While the Lagos-Ibadan section (157km) has been operational since 2021, the Ibadan-Abuja section is still under development

History

The railway replaces the Cape gauge Western Line built by the British in 1896–1927, which has a lower design capacity and is in a deteriorated condition
