East African Crude Oil Pipeline

Objective

EACOP will transport oil produced from Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania where the oil will then be sold onwards to world markets.

Description

The pipeline is intended to transport crude oil from the Ugandas oil fields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania with 216,000 barrels per day. it is planned to start in the year 2025.

History

"Known for many years as an area where natural oil seepages occurred, oil was first discovered by drilling in the Lake Albert area of Uganda in 2006. This first discovery led to an extensive period of further exploration and appraisal which was completed in 2014.
