The railway section between Douala and Yaoundé which is by far the most trafficked section of the whole network is highly degraded. Rehabilitating the rail track - including bridges and railroads crossings - and modernizing the signaling would greatly improve traffic safety, reliability and speed

History

The history of rail transportation in Cameroon dates back to the early 20th century, when the country was under German colonial rule. The first railway line was built in 1909 and connected the cities of Douala and Yaoundé, acting as an important means of transportation for the movement of goods and people.
