Objective

The aim is to massively increase the amount of freight travelling by rail from Ethiopia, as well as provide passenger services along the route.

Description

A new standard gauge railway connecting landlocked Ethiopia to the ocean through Djibouti (95% of trade).

History

The Ethio-Djibouti Railway is a 1,000 mm ( 3 ft 33⁄8 in) gauge railway built in 1897–1917.
